Astronauts experience weightlessness  because they constantly falling in orbit around earth. Their is gravity in space. Mass has gravity therefore the earth has gravity. This makes astronauts orbit around the earth.

Acceleration is how fast an object increases speed. Acceleration has nothing to do with how fast an object is going. If a car travels at 40 mph for one mile without changing its speed the car does not have acceleration. Gravity also has an effect on acceleration gravity pulls downward on any object. In the lab when we pushed a car uphill and let it roll back down hill we recorded that it the car traveled faster downhill than up.
